My whole problem with alot of these magazines is directly stated in Smiths article  the old line about yes this is a Chevy but you can do this on your fill in the blank .....OK so if the information is good for all engines then do a article on a Pontiac or a Olds or a Ford or a Chrysler. And we all know that while yes basically the engines do the same things wit similiar changes each engine has its own special tricks. But yeah if all engines atre trhe same then why not do a feature on Cams in a 360  or a 351 w if they are all the same should not this appease the Chevy boys ?

It's not about appeasing Chevy boys- it's about money.   Parts on a Ford or Mopar cost more than Chevy parts, and when you are trying to bring a project to print on a budget (both time and money budget) looking for just the right cam for that 360 is not really an option.

Holy f'n crap. Just about every magazine on the market has a Chevy or Ford bias. If you pick up any parts catalogue, out of 100 pages, 70 will be GM, 20 will be Ford, 8 will be Mopar and 2 will be AMC. Same goes for car magazines. The only magazines that cover us Mopar guys are rags about multi-million dollar Hemicuda convertibles and rare survivor Superbees with 5 origional miles. There was one article about a guy who owned not one, not two, not even ten '71 Hemi Chargers, but 35. Muscle cars weren't ment to be cloistered in a garage with the gas in the tanks turning into varnish, they were ment to be driven. People like the guy with the chargers and others just like him only serve to put a wall between working guys like me and ever even hoping to own a clean, mid sixties, early seventies muscle car. When did rusty slant six Nova IIs start going for eight grand?

It's been super annoying to try and get the Disco running, partially because we're so busy, and partially becuase we're now having to rebuild the engine that the machine shop already rebuilt. Taking stupid forever kinda time. And now we're off to SEMA for a week, and then we'll kill ourselves catching up for two weeks after that.

DF

Here is an idea-(one of many i'm sure)

Get a $1400 Target motor

Swap out the cast pistons for L2256 Flat Top pistons $263 (don't re balance)

or L2304 .100 dome pistons for @ 9.2 comp. w/76 cc  $337

Put in a 30/30 cam from crane PN#967251-254/254 @.050 .485/.485 114 $123 plus solid lifters. (you can also get the cam reground for @ $60 and save money)

Squeeze the piss out of it and see how fast see will go before letting go. Maybe @ a 400 Big Shot Systems $555

Sounds alot like cheap thrills??????????? See if you can get into low 11's for a motor that's under $3000 with all new parts.

sounds like a good idea. maybe they will and kids on a budget like me can make a go-fast weekend racer on a body-man budget.

I think it was CC you did this story @ a decaded ago, but they kept the target short block and just swap heads and cams. They got some good HP numbers out of it. I think it was Joe Sherman who did the story.

http://www.joeshermanracing.com/

Back in the early 1970's Joe was one of the first to install a 3.75" stroke crank out of a 400 into a 350 block creating the now popular 383 small block Chevy

.

350 Chevrolet

The Engine Master SB Chevy is built from a new GM Goodwrench long block. By replacing key components (heads, cam, manifold, etc) we are able to increase horsepower by 150 or more. Each engine is carefully assembled, then run in on our SuperFlow dyno to assure proper Camshaft break-in and proper ring sealing. After the 30 minute run-in, the engine will be tuned to fine best timing and carburetor jetting for most torque and horse power. After the Dyno test session the heads are retorked and valves are reset. This is truly the ultimate ‘Turn Key’ engine – just install it and go have fun.

Those are some pretty motors.  Whats in the mustang I was thinking the Ford motor below it except it apears to have a tunnel ram?

To primedia Thank you guys for the paint and body anular which featured the disco nova, so many plans to rob a bank now though I will just have to wait on my lotto ticket.
