what does everybody think about the latest 'Charger'?
i dont know what to think of it really, its a pretty sweet car, with the small-block and a matching small price tag. I wish they hadnt called it a charger, though. The car would be cooler, i think, if they had called it somethig else. No charger should be a 4-door.

I hate it. Its just a magnum without the station wagon part. Dodge only has one look for their cars. Look at the durango, dakota, ram, charger, magnum, caravan, and even the neon. they have the same basic looking grill. thats rediculous. it doesnt look much like its original self. Ya, i watched that walker episode. I was so happy the car got smashed all to crap. it was almost a beautiful as if it was a mustang. and the trucks, they dont look like work trucks at all, its just weird to see them hauling a load, it doesn't look natural.

My buddy has one, a Hemi. It's pretty cool, but I wish Dodge would've tossed in some original Charger details and/or made it a two-door. It rides nice and the power is smooth all the way to redline. It'll push you into the seat when you nail it. My one gripe is the trans dipstick or lack of one I suppose....the top of the dipstick tube is sealed off...there's a little cap that says "for dealer use only" on it.

At first I didn't like them, but they're growing on me. They're a lot ballsier than GM and Ford right now. They're supposed to be the replacement for the dodge intrepid. I'm not complaining. Although I don't care for the nameplate, an srt8 is pretty bad ass. Mitch "I'm a Mean Machine, Drinking Gasoline and Honey you can make my motor run"-Guns and Roses

Don't like that they soiled the charger name althoughI do like the car itselfe, I like the 300 a hair more with the high sides it really looks like a poor mans rolls or the like. Ah and they were smart enough to use a solid axle like the mustand it's to bad GM went IRS all the losses on launch really ruined the GTO even if it's ugly I figured it would perform well then it came out and proved all the nay sayers right, in either CC or HRM they covered some moron retrofiting the modern drivetrain axles and all to an original gto. So sad so many people have more money than brains. Not that the motor and tranny and even front suspention wouldn't be nice additions just that wothless IRS.

I dont think IRS was such a bad thing. Have you rode in one? I like it. It still gets up and moves. its not like they were trying to make a full out drag car with it. Its more of a "luxury" muscle car if that can be said.

It's not bad for the ride but it steals the brunt of the power on launch and thats the big joy of a muscle car over a sports car. As a way to think about it the twin turbo viper from pump gas drags would have easily placed higher with out IRS, great for cornering but for drifting and straight aways it just stinks it all up, plus if you put serious power youve got little half shalfts to snap, vs a big solid rear.

The GTO doesn't do anything for me. I'd drive a SRT8 Charger long before a gto. And this is coming from a guy who races a chevy. Mitch "I'm a Mean Machine, Drinking Gasoline and Honey you can make my motor run"-Guns Roses

I like the drive line, but the car is just butt-ugly! And no,it should`nt be called a Charger. There isn`t a thing about that body that say`s Charger. Thats a disappointment.

the trans dipstck thing is COMPLETE BULLSH*T. I guess i didnt notice when I was looking at one. That kind of thing really bugs the heck out of me. By the way, i dont really like the cover over the engine, id rather see valve covers)
I think it was a positive change from the Intrepid, anything RWD is better that FWD. ...And the road becomes my bride - Metallica

It seems a lot of folks (not just in this forum) are really upset with the new Charger. As for myself, I'm sure I'll never own one. That being said, I am grateful that Dodge did make it a V8 rear wheel drive car. Some of you will remember the days of 3.0L Dusters and 2.2L Chargers. With a sea of red tape bean counter corporate crap that has to be navigated it's amazing to me that they have as many V8 RWD offerings as they do. With the price of cars getting as high as they are, it seems to me that the market draw is in favor of a dual purpose vehicle. One that can haul the kids to soccer, haul the groceries home and haul ass on the weekends. My wifes little 'stang is a nice car, but as my kids get older I find myself looking towards that type of car myself. I have been hoping for Ford to bring over the Falcon BA, but since that won't be happening any time soon... So who knows, maybe the new Charger isn't looking all that bad.

"if you put serious power youve got little half shalfts to snap, vs a big solid rear."
I don't know how stout the DCX IRS is, but IRS doesn't have to be weak. Plenty of 700 hp+ Formula and GT race cars use IRS. On the other hand, GM afflicted the departed F-Bodies with a spindly "solid" axle which devolved from John Z. Delorean's masterpiece--the VEGA. So not all "solid" axles are better than a well-designed IRS.
A handful of fairly quick "street" cars based on Corvettes and Vipers run IRS. While a built 9" or even a Dana 60 is the preferred choice for a drag-only car and will likely be so for the foreseeable future, we will continure to see quicker times run with IRS in "street" cars.
