My city's dragstrip, in Terre Haute Indiana, hosts a Friday Fun night about two or three Fridays a month in the summer. The event is sponsored by an import performance shop but nobody brings imports to race. I find it amusing but also a little sad. I don't want the shop to stop funding the event but they're really kind of wasting their money. Last time I went there was a single Suburu WRX representing the import crowd and it was bone-stock. I know he hadn't spent any money at that shop. All the "tuners" in my town seem more concerned with wings and ground effects than performance. I think that's why I am so annoyed by them. Always happy to stomp them in the stoplight drags though.

Jesus, guys, whats the deal? I love V8 cars too, I've had 2 Monte Carlos and a 92 LT1 Vette. But I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, and I know of guys around here with cars like mine who can spank C5 Corvettes.... quit hating.

What kind of car you got? Does it go fast enough to beat an import? Here is what a girl did to beat imports with an american front wheel drive sport compact. What have you done that makes you such an expert?

i watch NHRA Sport Compact series all the time and it is quite amazing, i enjoy to watch pro RWD and see cars that on any given day will compete with greg anderson with 6 cylinders with stock cranks and stock blocks and stock cylinder heads

That's great and eveything, but that's not even remotely what you could call a street car. I bet that thing doesn't even turn to speak of with the big slicks on the front. Sure it's fast, but that's a drag only car not something the average guy (or girl) can build. If you wanna compare cars, why not compare apples to apples.
Think of it this way, my car makes about 250 horse and around 300 lbs of torque. That's in a 3500 lb car without me in it, and it has a 2.56 open axle in it. I have yet to lose to any import i've raced. This includes civics, dsm's, maximas, integras, altimas, etc. I know my car is not that fast, which really makes the import guys look stupid in my eyes. Cuz they think they're hell on wheels. Mitch So what if you have more Horsepower per liter, I've got more Horsepower per car!

oh, so when and where did you dyno it?
also your going to just say that since you have never been beat by a import that they arent or cant be fast also its just your words anyway and you hate imports so i think that would really cloud the truth. And if you are telling the truth i can guess your racing the croud who is more interested in ground effects than any performance whatsoever and if you think that people like JayHaas, irieeyes, and 7GMTEjoe (havent see them on the boards anymore) or ShapeGSX or BNJY are of that kinda croud i think your wrong, they would probably hate the quality of import racers as much as you do. But hey there are bad qualities of racers on both sides, look at yourself you have yet to build any performance engine yet all you do is bad-mouth people who side for imports, i believe you should be on the neutral side more or less like I am and that makes things much easier

First off, I never said their weren't fast imports. That'd be like saying all v8's are fast. Second, i don't group the mentioned people into the same group as people like "streetking". I still think that "bnjny" and "jayhass" are *** but that doesn't necessarily have to deal with their cars. I have a lot of respect for joe in particular, haven't seen him lately though.
I don't like imports, but that's my choice. I don't like crotch rockets either; I like harleys. You see my point? I don't wanna hear about some 10-second import car anymore than i wanna hear about the new fastest crotch rocket. It irritates me after awhile.
As for the imports in my area, well they'd fit right into the next fast and furious movie. If a hot v8 drives by, they holler and make fun of your car simply because they don't like it. They're also the ones that'll blow a red light in a race, and weave through traffic. These are some of the reasons I would love to see the import craze die. I can walk up to almost any gearhead in my area and talk cars. Try that with an import guy, and you'll find out your car sucks cuz it's not japanese. (even though my car would really kick most of their asses)
Finally, about my motor. I was blessed with decent parents, but both of them were against me building up a car. Everything I've done so far has been on my own. My dad's still trying to talk me into selling it and buying a fwd 4door 6 cyl. If i remember right you have family who's into cars. Imagine not having been around hot cars your entire life and then trying to build a performance motor. Not as easy anymore is it?
I already work 2 jobs to pay my expenses, and i get about 40-50 bucks a week to spend on my car. Not exactly a lot of money. The car was a rusty rats nest when i got it, so the hot motor came last. A year and half later, i've got the body and interior nearly finished and I'm ready to build a motor. So until you know their story don't knock somebody ok? Mitch So what if you have more Horsepower per liter, I've got more Horsepower per car!

its just as easy. What would be hard to me is the interior and body work you did yourself i admire people like that and im truly sorry you were working so hard on the project and i will be happy to answer any questions that i can along the way you have. But im sure if you talk to some good-hearted import racers of your age you might just get the same response maybe they havent had the money except for body and interior work, theres good and bad on both sides of the battle and i hope your open minded enough to take that into consideration

Ok, how about this cheap GEO, no wing but a lot of them around for the average joe, and alot of stock parts still in the motor.
Here Is A Pic Of Steve Lockett's Geo Storm. If You Don't Know Who Steve Is, He Owns And Drives A 10 Second FWD Geo Storm GSi. With A '91 Impulse Motor. Pulling 10s with 400hp On The Dyno. 9s Are Right Around The Corner From Him. Go Baby Go!

For All You Haters, Thats a 1.6 Liter With Most Of The Motor Still Stock. Stock Intake Manifold, Stock Cams, Stock Throttle Body, And Much More Is Still Stock.
