What are you looking to accomplish?  If you're looking for  horsepower out of a 4, you'd probably be better off with a 2.3 ford.  If you're looking for just some more power, I'd look at a 4.0 SOHC swap.  Personally, I'd just do a v8 swap and get it over with.  But it's up to you.

I think it would be cool to swap in a 6.8L V10 from the heavy duty fords.  You could probably get them for cheap if you look in junkyards or buy a old Ford motorhome (90's). Then the radiator could be moved to the bed where there is a lot of airflow. That would smoke the tires easily but considering the high gas prices, that would probably never happen. Just an idea. But AmericanMuscle13 is right, a V8 or a 4.0 V6 swap is the way to go.

Theres a couple of places to check out, 1 - Esslinger performance outta cali, they do alot with the 2.3 and 2.5 they specialize in off road racing along with USAC sprint cars,  2 - Racer Walsh outta Florida they pretty much do the same thing, PLUS Look at the New issue of CAR CRAFT (Dec. 05 issue), theres a couple of pics of a Mustang towards the front (page 24) of the mag with a nasty lil 2.5 turbo set up Runnin  9.80's. Now lets see your 4.0 ford engine god run those kinda numbers

As long as we're on this subject, has anyone done anything with a 2.8 V6 or a 2liter 4. I have both. The 2.8 is in my grandson's 84' ranger and the 2 liter is on my garage floor. I have dreams of making a rat rod from it. I have been slowly accumulating parts for it. I now have an axel for the suicide front end , a radiator from an old Kohler stationary engine (it's cool) and a Ford 8" rear end. I'll need a body (I have no idea what, maybe a 29' roadster) and thousands of misc. parts.   Someday!  someday!
