and I've got this one in mind but it's kind of...well...um...ok I'll just say it, it's a 1961 Rambler Wagon, no engine. Seems mostly rust free, straight and, well, has lots of parts to go with. Now the problem: I know little to nothing about the dynamics of engines or car crafting. All I really have is a burning desire and a car. Since I started reading Car Craft four years ago the need to build a project car has burn desperately in me. I thought it was a pipe dream due to ballooning classic car costs but now I've found a car I think could have super sleeper pontential. If this is to be, where should I start?

dont make the same misteak ive made before buying the car determine how much your willing to spend on it (not just the car the entire project) and if it needs parts that are hard to find (a 61 rambler isnt exactly a 69 camaro you cant just go buy every piece you need out of a magazine or website) and if you have somewhere to work on it working in the driveway is nice untill your neibors start complaning or its rainy out and your day is ruined

My buddy Nik said the same thing. What I need to know is, is their a book I should start with? What kinds of engines could fit in this car? Most I figure given it's size. The weight is something like 2400 lbs. w/o the engine. Plenty of space, just not a lot of know how. So I need advice on where to go once cost is givin a number. In order to do a pricing I need to know what parts are needed right? How do I know what parts are attainable if I'm not sure what parts are missing? I guess I need to go back to the current owner and do some more talking. And find a book to help with narrowing down the parts needed.

this car is a BAD choice.the first thing you should do is to sell it to someone,......LIKE ME! i love the early ramblers.there are some books out there on engine/trans swaps.check with HP BOOKS.look in JEGS and SUMMIT book section.and btw,a good friend of mine has a 59 rambeler w/383 and 200r4,s10 rear end,3.73s.very streetable drives everywhere and runs 12 flat all day.eats mustangs and camaros for lunch...

Great car to strart with! Build an AMC powerplant to put in it and you'll send em wondering WTF just happened as they look @ your tail lights.
All the power in the world don't mean a thing if you can't get it to the ground!
