The handful of expensive V-8s that Chevrolet built in 1917 and 1918 for its early line of large cars hardly revolutionized the performance industry.  Chevrolet exclusively built four and six cylinder engines from 1919 until 1955.

It is undisputed that the first low-priced, mass-produced monoblock V-8 was produced by Ford in 1932. Before that time, V-8s were expensive playthings for the rich.  While the Ford V-8 didn't cause the popularization of hot rodding (Ford's ubiquitous Model T was more responsible for that), it was the first V-8 widely used for that purpose.

(In a coincidental repeat of history, Ford also brought OHC and DOHC multi-valve V-8s down from the exclusive, expensive foreign exotic and luxury classes and made them affordable for ordinary Car Crafters.)

Ford currently has an overcapacity problem (just like all of the "Big 3" in the face of preditory Japanese competition and the suffocating millstone of UAW contract costs), but it's probably in a little better shape than GM.

And FORD BUILDS NEW MUSTANGS NOW (all Chevy has anymore is an empty sack of wantabe hot air)

"I just have not been able to get any sort of musclecar feeling from looking at any newer cars compared to almost anything from the '60s or '70s."

Stop "feeling" and use your head!  One test drive of an '06 Mustang GT will definitely give the seat of your pants a "musclecar feeling!"  (the 3V 4.6 is quicker and faster out of the box than about 95% of what we all lionize as '60s and '70s "muscle")

Project cars are great if you've got the time, skills, tools, facilities and money to build one.  But it only take about half an hour to go buy a 13-sec Mustang GT on the installment plan (and about a half-day to install a nitrous kit).   Finance the thing for 60 months--it's not that bad.

Insurance too high? Then drop down to a hot V-6 Mustang and hit it with a Procharger, a slight mist of spray and duals. (Procharger got a box-stock, single-exhaust, automatic V-6 '05 into the 13s on an 82-degree day. With duals, spray and some more tuning, you could hammer LSxs with a sleepy, insurance-friendly Mustang 6 . . . with great fuel economy and on credit, too!).

Still can't swing it?  5.0s and 1994-1998 Mustangs can rip for minimal cash outlay (and you can even get your bank to finance one--try that with your rusty project car).

Why not bang a 'Stang while (a) building that ultimate "musclecar" project or (b) waiting YEARS for that someday 20xx Cadillac-Camaro?

Is the mustang your answer for everything? Why waste ur time with v-6, they are ruff running engines in the first place. I'd rather wait a few years for the camaro to come back then waste my money on a pos mustang.

Sorry, man, It's just my opinion. I've spent my days at the dragstrip since day#1 and new cars don't do anything for me(although some may grab attention for a moment). Nothing. Sorry.

If someone says musclecar I can't picture anything past '70s.

Mustangs around here are not that popular except there's one group that all go to the same guy for speed and they all come to the track every week on the ameteur night. For the past ten years at least there's always been one interesting one that blends in with the rest and then the other 15 that try to be special are all hardly different from what the guys 5 years before built. I'm the type that enjoys something no one's even thought of creating much less has, so after seeing everything done on mustangs they just don't interest me much anymore.

No you Brady would rather waste your Money on a pos Nova. Because if you keep waiting for that Camaro , you will be a old man. The longer it stays away the longer it WILL stay away. That is a fact.

Bat did you check out the 09 prototype on hrm or on the quick silver site it's not a matter of old man it's set now and it's two years out.  I'm not crazy about it they went the modern cush ride IFS bit but they are making it, I have heard talk of it becoming an 08 model to help company sales, but it's not a pipe dream it's just around the bend.  Unfortunatly I don't want one but it is growing on me. maybe a 2010 model.  Once they work the bugs out.

Ive seen it on a few sites now and the interior looks fairly loaded although set up to apear minimal, it is supposed to have the same power plants available as the vett yet with all of the leaked pics running around including scematics I have yet to hear a price anyone??  I am curious it's not exactly what I want in a car but I have yet to see it from any manufacturer, so I am curious what it is supposed to run, if I could get a base model for 18 or less with a ls1 I think I would jump.

Bet it never makes it . If it does , which I doubt, it will fare little better in the Marketplace than the last one did . Why ? because it will be too expensive for the people who are actually interested in it to buy the thing.

what sites were those you saw the details of the camaro on?

im with you on the 18,000 for the ls1/ls6, 6 speed, at least 305mm tires. i prefer smaller rims though.

the reason is i just bought 2 tires for an intrepid and they were $100 each. size 225/60/16. that made me a bigger fan of 15's lol.

Some one copied the stuff off of ls1tech and posted it on hot rod, which is  good because even though it's not still up at ls1tech they still host the photos.  Bat it isn't a matter of if they will build it or not they are in a hole have you seen the price of the new impala?  it is 18 grand to start and they have already pulled the full size segment #'s away from Ford although they do not dominate that portion of the market you can bet when the Impala goes rwd slated for 09 the vick is screwed, Especially with Dmx hitting the same market with the charger.  So every one else isn't laying down like they have for a few years, not that it matters much they are all ugly cars.

Alot of talk jr but not alot of action yet . If the imp tug goes rwd as they say I do not think Ford will just stand still. Ford has proven it can get a car to market quicker and in better position to do well than GM over the last 20 years . GM reacts they do not set trends anymore and unless they change their whole corporate structure it will not change much. Also unless GM has a overhaul in the styling and ride factors it doesn't matter what they build because it will be like the other GM cars out lately. Boring uninspired dull not great handling old man cars with blob shapes.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!!!!!!  GM has plenty of cars with good styling and a nice ride. . .well, they have a few. . .and only if you are willing to spend $50,000 + for a caddy or a vette (though even the Vette could use a little bit better styling. . .gm took a huge leap on that with the C6. . .who was the genious who said "no hideaways, and take away all the rounded edges"  PAY ME TO DO THAT!!!!  I'D BE GOOD AT IT!!!!).  Unfortunately GM really is as lame as you say.
