There is a definite release for a 2007 Chebrolet Camaro. Chevy has decided to follow in the footsteps of ford and remodle the car making look like a 1969 Camaro. here is no word yet as to the powerplant or drive terrain of the car however it is creating a lot of buzz. I would really like to here what people have to say about what they think of the car. I do have pics however I cannot load them on to this post but if anyone asks I'll e-mail it to them.

I think I remember something along the lines of unofficial concept pictures for the firebird a few months back in the mag--maybe someone remembers more clearly?

They've been talking about this for the last 3 years.  I'll believe it when GM puts them on the showroom floor.  Besides, IT'S GM they'll probably #### it over by putting an ecotec in it our something stupid.

I read all the mags, so that sounds like an unfounded rumor to me. Although, it should be a matter of coarse, considering what a home run the new Mustang is, and that's coming from a Chevy guy. With the revered old nameplates they're using (Impala & Malibu), but w/wrong wheel drive, it doesn't look like Chevy has the cojones to do the right thing. I think they're afraid of being accussed of copying Ford's concept. I don't see why. It didn't stop them from making a HHR Cruiser. They should just swallow their pride, make a new version of a 1st gen Camaro using Ford's lead, and just let the orders flow in. The first Camaro's existance was owed to the Mustang. Sometimes it's good to let history repeat itself. Heck, they can even offer a base model with a straight six(Trailblazer-280hp) like the old days. Come on Chevy. Build it, and they will come. Line up behind me.

If they put the 220 horse I-5 from the new Hummer in a new Camaro it should be about as fast as the V-6 Mustang (depending on weight, transfer, yada yada).  From there they have a variety of options- 4.2L   I-6,  4.3L V-6, LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7.  It could be like 1969 all over again.

Even with the great LS1 v8, not enough people bought the old one.  I doubt Chevy will want a long list of engine choices to keep it simple for the assembly line.

well, that depends, if they start around 22 g's i think people would buy them. let them pick the interior and whatnot and make it fit their wallet, and it could be a hit.

I think the price should start where the Cobalt ends and go up from there- high teens-ish area.  That would make it a logical progression up the food chain for people moving out of their "starter" car.  If you have a two door Cobalt/Cavalier, and you get a raise, what do you move into?  Assuming you want to stay GM, that is.

I could really care less about what everybody else says about the new Camaro coming out or not... It needs to happen. Period. I feel that if your going start a project, then finish it, reguardless. If they can't put a new Camaro on the street, be it due to the reliability of another company, or to the innerworkings of GM being too timid, after word gets out that they are intending to do so, then they should just do it or screw it.

I, myself, am a huge Chevy fan, and am continually confused these days with discisions being made. Like why create what is basicly a re-disigned Cavalier and then call it a Cobalt? Why kill a car that is (whether it's selling well or not) one of the premiere cars in your fleet, instead of solving any issues that kept it from being one of the premiere cars on the market? I just don't get it.

Bring on a new Camaro, bring on a new Bel Air... hell, bring back a Nova, I don't care. Not to bad-mouth the Corvette, but GM needs to give us something else... NOW!

I agree. All GM has is the Vette and not everyone can afford one of them. Not everyone wants a Vette either. The GTO was a overpriced Grand Prix look-a-like that flopped for numerous reasons and the Cobalt SS is for the ricers that don't want to look stupid driving around in played out Civics. Where does that leave the old Camaro and Firebird guys?

I've always thought GM was stupid for killing off the F-bodies and not replacing them with a new and improved successor. The market was indeed there if they were willing to tap it. If they really wanted to, they could've made it happen. I believe they were more interested in making SUVs than they were on making a F body replacement.

I'd like to see any pics of a camaro concept if you have them, send them to

dave@dkusnick.com

Here's to hoping that pontiac takes at least a little notice to my *unofficial* Trans Am concept (featured in the OCT. issue - thanks Doug)

As for the release of a new camaro and hopefully subsequent firebird the market is definitely there. With the release of the new mustang (which I believe looks too much like a mustang II - but it is an improvement) and Dodge's new engagement in a V8 rear drive segment, albeit with a *cough* 4-door charger (that still sounds like blasphemy) car companies are definitely looking to the past at more performance oriented V8 automobiles that helped make their mark in the muscle-car hay-days of the past (although it also begs the question as to weither or not a new v8 rear drive pony car will be released with the raping taking place courtesy of the big oil companies).

If anyone would like to see more of my concept Trans Am featured in the OCT issue of CarCraft you can check it out at:

"Where does that leave the old Camaro and Firebird guys?"

When they get off home detention or out on parole, they could always try a Ford Mustang . . . .

Note that GM is also making some serious RWD performance cars in its Cadillac V-series line for "old Camaro and Firebird guys" who left behind petty "trailer park" offenses for white collar crime . . . .

(Just kidding!  I realize that only about 50% of "old Camaro and Firebird guys" are involved in illicit activities . . . . )
