for me it all started when i was about 8 years old, watchin my papaw rebuild a 302 for somebodys old farm truck and then shortly thereafter a 428 for dads 64 galaxie.you never forget the first burnout to (break in the rings) as dad said.pretty much my hole family are some form of shadetree mechanic even a couple of profesionals. now i'm 20 and workin on my second third gen f body this time its a camaro. the first one a firebird whick was in perfect shape when i got it had the horrabe fate of being the high school ride and got beat half to death and now rests in my uncle's buddy's junkyard. 700r4's can only do so many 6000 rpm power brakes. i promised myself the camaro want have the same fate.still got ford blue blood but the chevys are so cheap especialy around here in virginia no smog test.

My dad had a GTX when I was born. My folks say that for the first six months of my life the only way I would go to sleep was in the back seat listening to those open headers. Fast forward sixteen years and I spent my hard earned lawn mowing money on a 1983 Mercury Zephyr. My buddies in their Corvettes and Supra's and Mustangs that mommy and daddy paid for all had a good laugh the first time they saw "The Grey Goose." Until they found out it was an ex-bracket racer with a 460 groaning beneath the hood. Only on this forum could anyone else appreciate the gratification I felt watching a C-5 get a good look at my tail lights! Now I have a VERY understanding wife, a 6 year old son, a daughter who will enter this world in four days, a little dog that humps my couch cushions, a 66 Coronet with a strong 440 w/dual quads, and a 86 Chevrolet 4wd powered by a 327/350hp from a 68 vette. In short, I have it all

But I think the proudest I have ever been was last summer. I was putting the finishing touches on a disc brake conversion for the Coronet. My son was helping me. I asked him to lower the jack and when he did, the handle flew up and smacked him in the eye, leaving a four inch cut above his right eye. I took him in the house and cleaned him up while my wife read me the riot act. She tried to make him stay inside until I was finished. Ten minutes later he snuck around the side of the house and said "don't tell mommy." He had snuck out of his window to help me work on the car.

So I thank god for a dad who taught me how to wrench and let me buy a 2300 pound big block bracket racer when I was 16, a wife who is content to take three day getaways close to home instead of full blown vacations, a son who would rather help dad wrench than play video games, a new baby, and Detroit Muscle.

Well I've been into hotrodding all my life. Ever since I got my first truck which was a '77 chevy with a 454. I blew the motor with in a year(leaky rear main seal) and it was on from there. And back in the mid 80's my truck had a reputation for being one of the fastest trucks in town. After high school I got a job as a mechanic and worked in the field for 10 years. I got my first Camaro when I was 20 years old and it's been a project ever since. I drove it for 3-4 years before I desided to go nuts with it. I've also owned a couple of other Camaro's one being a '96 Z28 and the other is a '99 Z28 that I own right now. And over the years I've made it a point to research and discuss as much as I can about building cars. I may not know it all, but I'm sure I'll be able to contribute much to this forum.

Nice to see ya. Looks like you got some done on the car, too. Sorry to hijack!

I was born into a car family. My grandfather worked for Oldsmobile for almost 40 years, my Dad was a mechanic, my Mom, a Michigan state worker, and street racer, *** my older brother was street racing when I was growing up. I got into wrenching on cars for a living(25+ years now) then building engines.

Lets see. It all started when I was young watching my father work on his cars. I used to go to car shows with him and his ragged out(but awesome) Flathead '50 ford coupe! The seeds were planted...
Fast forward to when I was in junior high, I discovered gokarts adn minibikes. I was poor kid so obviously I ave to build one, instead of buy one. So I learned how to take a motor and put it on a frame. Now I was dangerous...I knew that I knew how to wrench on stuff.

So of course eventually it came time for me and my buddy to get our liscences. HE got an 83 Volvo 240DL Wagon. I got an '87 Mustang Notch 4cyl 5sp. Just like the minibikes, we raced. Then, one day his dad gave him a non running 85 2.8 Camaro with an automatic... HE fixed it...Suddenly I wasnt winning races anymore. So I did what anykid would do. I went looknig for a way to go faster than him...I found it! A turbo swap..only one problem. The swap cost more than it would to buy a turbo car. So I found a car(87 Merkur XR4ti) and towed it home from Ann Arbor to Toledo. Tossed a battery in it and fired it up. Then I discovered the world of cheap bolt ons. His camaro was no longer winning races, even with the warmed over 305 in it. Then our senior year he does it. He buys a 99Cobra(with his Money, I might add, got lucky with a job...) I wasnt winning races...So I joined the Army, bought an 88 Mustang Hatch and went nuts with my turbo swap. So here I am with my ridiculous 400+rwhp 4 banger stang...Staring at a pikle of LS1 parts and going "Hmmm...."
