Just as I said . . . nothing but vapor until 2010 or so.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=106732
GM will probably show a concept Camaro at the 2006 Detroit International Auto Show to gage public reactions and is contemplating a revival on a "low cost" RWD platform sometime around MY 2009 or 2010. So is it on again? Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, Ford will probably have sold about 600,000 to one million more Mustangs before the next Camaro hits the market.
Don't forget to factor in that political pressures will probably force an dramatic increase in fuel economy standards, and possibly emission standards (C02 being the villian nowadays) before GM's return to the pony car wars. So dreams of 400+ hp LSx Camaros produced in any kind of volume might be just that--dreams by 2010.
Mustang's hot and ready for action . . . now! No reason to wait while GM broods and fumbles.

I agree with you on the fact that there will probably be no f-body in the forseeable future (2010 sounds more feasable), but I don't see myself or others turning to the new mustang just because there is an f-body void. I honestly find the mustang unattractive and it looks, quite simply put, cheap. I know some will detest to this, but the GTO with new hood scoops and 400hp looks a lot more enticing.
I could also understand GM not being able to commit to a new platform at this time, as they have invested a lot in other platforms such as the C6(which the XLR shares) and the new Soltice and SKY. I'm in no way a fan of Japanese import cars, but I know you guys are probably going to hate me for saying that I think the new Saturn Sky is a hot looking little car (now why couldn't they slap the arrowhead on that and call it the soltice?). I almost get a miniature C6 feeling looking at it:

2010, good. I wont be outta college till 2009, that gives me time to save, and hopefully I'll have a job with GM by then, so it works out. For now, my S10 and Nova work out. The GTO is alot better than Mustang anyways, so pinching pennies is the way to go.

I'll never buy a 05 or newer Mustang. The new Mustang just doesn't do anything for me. Not even the SVT/Shelby version. Maybe it's because Ford tried too hard to make it so retro. I do agree that it does have a bit of a Mustang II-esque look to it. It's like a 74 Mustang II and a 68/69 fastback morphed together. If I was between a rock and a hard place and I had to get a "new" Mustang, I'd settle for a 94/95 Cobra or a 03/04 Cobra.

Whew! It must be hard for all these Camaro-heads to "keep the faith." Now they know a little bit of what it was like for Mopar maniacs after 1974 . . . .
Objective enthusiasts will be attracted, however, to the Mustang.
And let's keep in mind that if the pony car market were to slump because everybody is holding out for the "20xx Camaro," do you really think GM would commit to building it? Or will they read the shrinking market as being all washed up?
Buying a new Mustang is the most certain way you can show GM and DCX they both SHOULD build competitors.

I'd rather write a letter, I just don't know to who.

Sales say a lot more than letters.
Lots of folks told GM they wanted the "dustbuster" vans and the Aztek, too.
Besides, if GM really wanted free advice on products, they'd make it easy to write.
My suggestion is that you send your letter to:
Chevrolet Motor Division, General Motors Corp., c/o Jeff Smith, Primedia . . . .

While I admire the Super Troopers reference, I have to agree with Ted. I wouldn't characterize 4th gen F-body economy as awful, but it's not good either. Yeah, it does okay for being 270-320 horse motors, but there are many (IMO) other cars pushing that kind of power that get better economy. You have to add the auto cars into the equation since they made up the bulk of the sales.

I just think at 13 second car that can get almost 30 mpg a pretty cool thing.

can somebody please post the pictures of the supposed upcoming camaro that the starter of this thread said he has? i cant wait for the camaros return either. and although they had more than a couple problems, you cant argue with the reputation of being fast and fun that theyve built up. thanks.
