ok so we got this magazine and its got lots of chevys and fords. and It has great tech articles and lots of cool car pics and some projects that they do tech work on. but a truck? hey guys? um......hello? This is CAR CRAFT. hence the word car in the title.  I tell you. I was dissappointed when you dropped out mopars for a few months. the mopars in the mag currently are way out of my budget. but now a truck? Chevy (of  course) nineties (which is affordable). but come on people! I may sound like a whiny little chump writing this but I am looking for tips on domestic V8 muslce by means of cars. I wouldn't hate if it were a cool old hot rodded truck but it a lame mid 90s chevy with rims and paint.  The Blues brothers thing was cool but coulda and shoulda been used with a car. I am dissappointed..........

The emphasis on that build-up was to create an affordable yet classy parts chaser/tow vehicle to be used in car crafting.  Besides, trucks aren't that bad.  My 355 S-10 runs high 8's in the 1/8th mile.  It soundly spanks Z28's, GT Mustangs, and many other cars at the strip and can still haul 800 lbs of gravel or lumber when I need it to.  Many of us crafters cannot afford classic iron or newer pony cars for our rods. I have only got $3k total in my truck.

well the way I see it sometimes they do make fun sleepers... but being more of a fan of a nice lifted monster truck i think most of the time they belong in the dirt... and this new idea is one used too many   i mean considering the big 3 all have some sort of a "sports truck" now...  its kind of ridiculous.. i mean who wants to spend 50K or whatever for a 13 second ram truck ?   yeah the V10 is nice but id take my chances in the Viper    which reminds me im kind of getting irritated with dodges whole play up on their "hemi"   soo irritating I think the 300C is a turd with and without the hemi,  youd think they would make something that doesn't look like a rolls royce... or a wagon  ( built up wagons are nice )   but hey  " we are dodge and we like to put our flagship engines in anything but an actual sports car you can afford  thats right a pickup truck, a station wagon crossbreed thing and a big doofy rolls royce"  oh and " our only affordable "sports car" is a front wheel drive 4 cylinder neon" ( which is about as cool as wearing a tie die shirt )    hate to get off subject as usual   but off the record...       something is seriously going wrong at the chrysler division.

I am not going to rag on your truck at all because that is a sweet truck. and by truck I do mean truck and not car. I would be interested in reading a magazine dedicated to truck racing and performance modification, but not in Car Craft. I think that something like that would be an article for another mag.  there are enough domestic hot-roddable v8 powered cars to focus on.  I don't think a parts getter truck warrants a series of articles about it. I am not hating on trucks mind you I just hate the fact that there are truck articles in a car magazine.

I dunno, I think an article on trucks is ok now and then.  After all, we all have winter beaters, right (in the snow belt anyway).  I also think a 13 second truck is overkill.  My (winter beater) truck runs 15s and I almost never have a problem with stoplight drags...just my 2 cents.

Beer, it's what's for dinner.

why all the bitchin about trucks in the mag..

there isn't a v8 car made in the past 15 years that is useable year round....

mopar none untill u go back to like 82

g.m. none till you go back to 95 (the f-body is not useable year round  not in the rust belt(snow) it be like riding a harly in the winter ..and a vette isn't cheap..

ford  well they got the mustang but same as the f body no good in the winter  or grandma's ltd....

trucks are cheap/ year round/ tow,haul,ect.. and are rear wheel drive...

and if you own a home and don't pay someone to do everything in it  you need a truck...hell try bringin' that engine or rearrend home in a car...maybe the trains you're gonna beef up in the trunk of your car.. does wonders to the carpet...lol

if you guys are in to the junkyard stuffthat you say left this mag with matt king  why the bitching on hop up on a truck that help you get those junkyard finds home...........................................hummmmmm

"there isn't a v8 car made in the past 15 years that is useable year round...."

Nor a SHIFT KEY it would seem. . .

Hope you don't need a cop or a cab in the winter . . . .

All-weather V8 RWDs in the past 15 years include: Ford Thunderbird (through 1997)  Mercury Cougar (through 1997), Mercury Marauder (!!!), Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport (buckets, floor shifter, 17" wheels, monochromatic trim, dual exhaust), Ford Police Interceptor (!), Lincoln  Mark VII and Mark VIII (!!), Lincoln Town Car . . . .

ANY of these would be quicker, faster, more economical to operate, and better handling for less money than "Cone Head."  Why can't CC manage a decent "sleeper"  project?

Trucks, like toilets, are necessary to Car Crafting . . . but neither are much fun to look at in a CAR mag (except perhaps the SVT Lightning).  There are plenty of adequate truck magazines out there.

What's next? An SUV? A Jeep? An import ? (uh . . . scratch that last one, they've already tried it)

Dude, have you weighed a "half-ton" pickup lately?  Cone Head weighs about 1000 pounds more than a '97 Tbird, Cougar or Mark VIII.  Probably 700 more than a Police Interceptor.
