1978 trans?

My dad just gave me his 1978 corvette,I was just wondering if anybody could give me any info on this car,Its an auto, (ex)what kind of trany it had and what kind of number this type of car would run in the quarter mile? any info would help

my first post diddnt post so just compare the trans pan to other trans that should work ive been on some corvette web sites cant remeber the names but there out there they proubbly can help you out with anything you need to know good luck man

It's more than likly a Th400. Look for the vacuum modulater it should be on the passengers side of the trans.

M is the plant where it was cast and 77 is the year.

In stock form don't expect much in the quarter mile times. 78 was near the worst year for performance because the automakers were still trying to figure out new emmissions laws. The vette wasn't even the fastest production car in america that year. That title went to Dodges Lil Red Express Truck.

go to your local autoparts store actually call before you go to see if they have photos on the computer to show you i know advance auto parts does that's where i work. ask them to look up a tranmission filter kit for that car and then have them print out the photo of both what i believe could be what you have, either a th350 or a th400. then take the photos home and match the photo to the shape of th pan. and don't expect to have impressie numbers at the track on that car at least not stock anyway. i'm guessing like maybe 16 or 17 sec on the 1/4 mile. but you have an awsome car put work into the motor and trans and you'll be impressed.good luck brother
