Some background for those intrested, if not skip to the bottom: when I was 14 my dad, who is a certifiable car nut, told me a bout a mustang he had heard about in a farmers barn a few miles down the road. A few days later we went and saw the car.. it was a 66 mustang convertible with an inline 6 and c4 and had pigeon droppings holding the rusted hulk together. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/mattc6/Cars/mustang/MustangFrontDriversBroughtHome.jpg Working as a diswasher at a local restraunt gave me the means to purchase it for the exorbant price of $250. But the farmer left the hay and mouse nests in the car, so I think I got the better end of the deal. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/mattc6/Cars/mustang/MustangBroughthomeInteror.jpg The car was my life after that point, every doller that a motivated highschooler made when into that car. After learning how to weld by replacing the floors, rockers, quarterpanels, wheelhouses..ect and rebuilding the brakes it went off for paint my senior year. After getting it back from the bodyshop, I found a 65 coupe (Ironicly the parts car cost more than the project car) that had been hacked apart for rust repair but the 289 drivetrain was fresh. So in went the motor trans and rear axle. And thats how it would stay for the next several years.
On with the reason for the post.. That is when the car was tucked away in a corner of my parents garage as I went out of state to go to college. The car sat in stasis, slowly sinking into the background as the garage clutter continued to build around it. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/mattc6/Cars/mustang/MustangPassSideAfterBodyShop.jpg Four years later I graduated from The former General Motors Institute (now Kettering University)my major? mecanical engineering with an automotive powertrain design speciality and bought a home in Michigan. On graduation day my parents showed up to my house with the mustang in tow, its intrior heaping with parts I had stockpiled in Highschool (well most of them, 4 years is a long time for parts to wait.. several took to an earily retirement, and are probibly living the good life in arizona). I put it in the garage with the intention of finishing it as soon as possible. Oh I made a noble effort, I pulled the driverside front suspension out with the intention of finisheing the 5 lug conversion and replacing all the bushings..well that was where it say for several more years, looking forlornly as I worked on other projects- t56 caprice, 91 z28 vert, 67 camaro..I never had the time I felt the car deserved, it was my first car, it had to be perfect, or so I thought. As the car sat time marched on, I met a beautiful woman, she is a pontaic fanatic, car nut, and on one of our first dates she took me to a test and tune night at milan dragway...(she even let me win)and it was Her old Issues of car craft that i ran across in december 07 that held the McGean Camaro intervention article.. So starting in december my personal thrash was on, to get this car running and "Just Drive it" so panel alignment may not be perfect, and there is a run in the paint...It will be used. So in january the interior was installed, front suspension rebuilt and all the brakes redone. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/mattc6/Cars/mustang/P1120686.jpg Febuary added the charging system, the remaining trim, waterpump and the rest of the cooling system. Just this last weekend, another milestone, the 289 fired up for the first time since it had been placed there almost a decade ago. now its just exhaust, radio and alignment in between this car and the open road... It took your intervention article to make me realize what was happening. Even my wife cant believe how far its come, she said it was just a hulk taking up space ( if it was a gto it wouldn't have been an issue LOL) now she is just amazed its the same car... Just thought I would share my story, hopfully it was an intresting read...

oh man, i gotta get my 68 Meteor Montcalm out of storage...
it went in with a not even broke in rebuilt 390 and a freshening up all around..
then I went to college, and well it's been almost 2 and a half years and i haven't got to see it...
word for the wise..going to school in another province seems like a good idea....but renting a room and garage on a ramen noodle budget isn't gonna happen.
