Check out this web site for buick parts and info. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php It is an excellent resource for Buick owners with sections on performance building big block and small block Buicks including your 300 as well as parts for sale and parts wanted sections. Just be careful if asking about putting a chevy motor in your Buick as it can ruffle some feathers over there. Any chevy small block will go in a buick, pontiac ect. but you would need motor mounts and frame pads, wiring harness and possibly a few other things from a chevelle of the same year. You will also need a new trans as the chevy mill will not bolt up to a buick trans. Swapping a 305 chevy for your 300 would gain you nothing in the power department. You could do better by swapping the cam and adding headers to your 300 (available through Poston Enterprises) and finding a used 4 barrel intake on the net if you don't already have one. Then upgrade the distributor to an electronic conversion by Dave "ignitionman" Ray (Dave's smallbody HEIs.com) and you'd be good. If you want more power then why not a Buick 350? They're dependable and make tons of torque and I see a lot of them in junk yards around here and on the net. You can also get a rebuilt one at Autozone or where ever. And, they bolt right in! Just ad a mild cam, good timing gear and chain, Headers and an alum. intake (Poston's or TA Performance) a rebuilt 750 q-jet and the HEI and trust me, you will be impressed. If you 300 is original to your '65 then it is a "nailhead" and nothing looks more vintage hotrod than a nailhead with a 4 barrel, alum valve covers ect. If it were my car (and I realise its not) I'd have to find a 401 nailhead for in it but that's just me. ![]() BTW, I'm in no way slagging the chevy motors. Its just that Buick built some great motors that are too often overlooked. I've owned and built Chevies all my life and loved them all but after building my first buick ('66 Skylark w/455) I'm hooked on the easy power to be had and its nice to stand out in the crowd. Check out the v8buick site. You'll be glad you did.

Hey sorry its taken so long to get back but thanks for all the info.
see my main problem is that i live in southern cali in the desert and i dont have the know how to rebuild a motor. id like to keep the 300 becuase if im correct these were the wildcat 310's and im thinking if they made 310 in stock form then a good rebuild by a shop and some headers cam and nice intake with a 4bbl carb could push it up a little.
The 300 has over 90 something thousand miles on it and probably went all the way around once before. How much do you think id end up spending for a good rebuild on it.
The only reason i was looking at a chevy motor swap because you can pick up a brand new 350 small block ready to install and go for around 1600 bucks and its pushing 290 hp with 330 torque.
but i like the buick motor becuase its not an everyday motor that is shoved into any car out there.
OH it also has the two speed tranny so my brother tells me becuase hes the who gave it to me, but it has as many miles as the motor so it probably needs a little frshening up to. I was thinking that it needs a rebuild too a nice shift kit would also help out.
Im not looking to have this done anytime soon but i would like it done within the next 6 months or so.
do you think it can be done. i only get to play with it two times a week so im kinda short on time.
well thanks for all the info its been a great help.
P.S. i also wanna beat the pants off of this little acura rsx ricer at school.

One thing to remember about crate engines of any kind is that they come with none of the accessories. Some don't even come with an intake. By the time you buy the carb, fuel pump, distributor, starter, fan, all the brackets, belts, hoses ect you can plan on having well over $2000.00 in it. I'm assuming when you say "school" you mean highschool and most kids in H.S. aren't made of money. I'm not certain but I'd say that you could get a basic rings, bearings & valve job on your 300 for under 1600.00. Call a couple of machine shops in your area and get some quotes.
