new straight 6?

I may not be technologically able to do this, but I want to, so any help will be appreciated. We have a spare 72 nova sitting at home with a nice body, but the original 6 is shot. I was thinking about finding a wrecked trailblazer from the junkyard and yanking the straight 6 from it with the tranny and putting it into the nova. why you may ask? why the hell not. It already makes 291 h.p. with a great torque curve, add a few bolt ons and you got an easy 300 h.p. so dont feed me any horsepiss about why not drop in a small block. I know I would have to pull all the electrical stuff also (ECM, ect), but would there be anything else I would need to grab? Is there an ignition tamper thing? I think this would make a great street cruiser, keep the original 3.08 gear and it can loaf on the highway while knocking down I'd say 25 mpg. I guess first of all, would it fit? again, any help would be great... oh, and no, I dont wanna turbo it. tho they do make a supercharger.......

I don`t know what it would take to do it. But it sounds like a neat project to me.

I can't help with the details, but I have found taht when doing these kinda of swaps it's best to buy the donor complete and have it handy while doing the swap.  It usually ends up cost more than buy the whole donor if you just pull stuff froma yard as you need it.

When I swapped a V8 and modern suspension into my 38 Plymouth I bought hte donor as a complete car.  When I was done they hauled away the shell and what few pieces I didn't use, plus all the scrap I pulled off the Plymouth.

I 100% agree.  Even with older cars the most valuable thing is a complete parts car.  You never know what kind of little stuff you'll need.  With it being more modern, you might find other things you can adapt to your car.

I doubt you'll have too much trouble...it is GM...they don't change anything...it'll probably bolt right in.

Sounds like a neat project...good luck

Go for it! There is nothing wrong with your idea. Yes, the smallblock is good, but the different approach is better, as sixes ALWAYS get a bum rap. I'd suspect you'd likely have to custom fab all the mounts and brackets to make 'er fit, but the result will definitely be a one of a kind. Keep us posted....and good luck with your project.

what about the in line 5? i dont know much except a friend has a colorado with one and it seems to pull pretty hard in the truck and if you are going for the dare to be different route that shouldnt be any more work and if it will really be a cruiser the slight loss of hp shouldnt be a real big problem. just a suggestion though you know?? by the way the colarado has a stick which could make up for the loss of power (sorta)

I thought about it, heck I even own an 06 colorado with the inline 5. It does pretty good, and stepping on it to pass someone can take you by surprise, even with the crew cab. ran a 16.1 at the drag strip, which was decent in my book. there was a 06 dakota with a v-8 that only ran 17.1. but with 220 h.p., I could probably only get about 250 h.p with bolt ons out of it. plus, the inline 5 in an old car was already done, well, in an old truck. gm put on in a like 50 chevy truck to promote the motor. the inline six is the same as the inline 5 with one extra cylinder.I like the new gm inline 6 for a few reasons. one, its only 2 cubes bigger than the original motor, two, it already makes 291 h.p. you'd have to do alot of mods to an old style straight six to get that power or the 6 grand rpm limit. with a few bolt ons, it bet I can reach over 300 h.p. wouldnt that be fun to line up with a new gt mustang and tell him he got beat by a straight six? or alot of other cars at that.
