Problem:  I have a 1977 Olds Delta 88.  I am a college student.  I have no money.  Some idiot (read: me) built and installed a 421 SBC with 11.6:1 slugs and a big x huge roller cam before he went away to school. Now this idiot can’t afford the gas to go cruising when he comes back for breaks.  Once said idiot graduates and gets a real job, he plans on pulling that engine because he wants to do a ProCharged 540.  That’s a lot of weight to get motivated and the small block just isn’t cutting it anymore.  However, even after the aforementioned idiot comes back from school, he will still be poor due to student loans.

Solution:  Build an E85 engine.

Why don’t you guys do a forced induction E85 buildup?  Everywhere I go that seems to be the hot ticket.  Not only would an article like this be informative to people interested, but my guess is that it’d be fun as hell too.  Come on, do I really have to twist your arm?

i would think a buildup using off the shelf 12 to 1 pistons and popular low buck heads ... for the dyno test motor a belt drive or quick change timing cover... maybe even drilling tapping the front of the test heads and blocking the water openings on the intake side for fast cam changes...

then swapping cams around till the best power and fuel economy... running straight e85 now that it is available here in so cal in brentwood, north of sunset, west of the 405... using a detonation sensor  to listen for the death rattles....

Car Craft has already done E85 builds.  Including one supercharged SBC buildup.  They've also featured a Mopar that had a supercharged E85 engine.
