I'm trying to put an 88 Lincoln HO 302 into a 74 260 Z using the stock wiring from the Lincoln, but I can't find a wiring diagram for the Lincoln to make sure I don't forget something. I know Painless has a harness available, But I can't afford it right now. Any helpful suggestions?

paul... ? electric choke??? manual choke...?????if it is a manual choke... and you dont have the choke cable installed use a short length of steel wire (thin coathanger )through the choke cable attachments on the passemger side of the carb so it holds it completely open ...
if it is electric choke... you can loosen the screws on the choke thermostat (black cap on passenger side of the carb) and rotate it so the choke is open....
if you have a hot air choke. (no electric terminals on the black cap) you can also loosen the cap or.. use 1/4" tubing with the proper farrels and cap and wrap it several times around the header or exhaust pipe and back to the vent on the back of the carb top... this allows filtered air to be drawn through the choke... ps... i usually use several pieces of tube with inverted flair unions and antiseize so i can unscrew the section wrapped around the headertube or head pipe...without having to unwrap the whole thing...
i have also seen other people weld a little thicker steel 1/4" tubing to the side of the rear header tube so you can hook up the rest to the hot air choke...
i tryed to answer it completely... if the choke is closed.. it will put out tons of black smoke until it totally fouls the spark plugs... the choke is only used to start a totally cold motor.. if you need more ... repost with more info...on a new thread...

Paul, need some info. First, what year and motor is it. Second, what carb is it? Need to know the list and/or size. Just a bit of background on a smoking engine. Blue smoke=oil, white smoke=water/coolant, black smoke is carbon (unburnt fuel). Is it producing black smoke at an idle or just under acceleration or constant engine speed? Not sure of the temp where you are, but if it's above 65 outside you should be able to set the choke complete open and not have too many starting issues to diag your problem. Make sure you have a working choke after the diag and repair is complete. If the choke is already open you likely have a carb that is way to big for your engine.
Good luck, Rob
