I need help if there is any out there for this situation:
i decided to start up my 78 el camino 350/350 that has been sitting in my garage because it's not smog legal.  Like an idiot I hooked up the battery and crossed the poles, then tried to crank it. I got all kinds of arcing and smoke at the starter.  After realizing I corrected the poles, put a new HT mini starter in and tried to crank it.  No dice at all so I checked:  Battery, gell cell good, ground @ battery good, alternator good, HEI good, spark plugs and wires good, changed ignition switch, checked all fuses that are there, cant tell if im missing any or not, starter is good, no ECM so that is not an issue.  All this but when I turn the key I get no sound at all, no cranking, no nothing other than the key warning buzz. Can anyone shed any light?? I would appreciate it.  Thanks

wow this is happening a lot... i just answered a simular question somewere else...

you fried the fuseable links at the starter...

click on circut protection... first...      the fuseable links are not shown on the wiring diagrams..  yours would be ill #30...

select a fuseable link premade end that is 4 numbers smaller than the wire it protects...  10 gauge gets a 14 gauge link.. 12 gets a 16,    14 gets an 18 ...  premade ends are available at most parts stores...
