anyone know a good site for engine block serial number/vin decoding? i'm tired of going in circles with nastyz28.com, but if they're right, i got a 73, or 76 350 pushin 155 hp . the numbers between the passenger side valve cover and the water pump are: c67146349, and to the right of them is: v0621tjk. v0621 means flint, june, 21st, and tjk means that it's a truck motor with a 4bbl making either 155, or 165 hp. i dont really know what c67146349 means. the numbers just foreward of the bell housing are 3970 (wierd symbol, like solid 0)1(wierd symbol, like solid 0). below, and to the left of that reads, in huge letters, GM 35, which is probably not important. that is probably a correct decoding, about it bieng a truck motor and all, but any more info, or a link to a better site would be helpful. also, this motor is currently in a 1970 nova, and the cowl tag confirms that it came as a V8 sport coupe. it came stock with bucket seats, and a console shift automatic, which i heard is fairly rare. it has an edelbrock 600 cfm carb, a delco hei, a weiand highrise intake manifold, short headers, 2 1/2" exhaust, a mild cam, and some stock lookin heads that also read gm35. its apart now, because of the circumstances described in one of my other articles. im replacing the valve pushrods, rocker arms, and considering a lifter valley baffle to keep hot oil off my intake manifold. are there any other cheap mods i can do with the motor torn down, but still in the car? i want to buy parts that i can reuse when i get around to building a new motor

ok, i found a better site than nasty z28
http://www.rustynutscarclub.com/chevdatasbc.htm#SMALL%20BLOCK%20CASTING
the casting number is 3970010, not 3970 (wierd symbol, like solid 0)1(wierd symbol, like solid 0). it's a 4 bolt main, for high performance applications, and trucks. hopefully my aftermarket parts have converted it to high preformance. the heads actually read gm 37. thier casting number is 333882 and those were made from '75-'77. they arent defined as truck heads on http://www.rustynutscarclub.com/chevdatasbc.htm#SMALL%20BLOCK%20CASTING and some are, so the motor is probably a '76 from a truck, and the heads could be from any 75-77 sbc. i needed to know the year of the motor, thats why i posted this.

ok hard to tell year, that will be the stamped letters on front of block. The 3970010 came with 2 and 4 bolt mains. (I am building one now that has 2 bolt mains) chevy used that casting number from 1969 to 1979, 69 was the first year for the 302 Z 28. rest where 350's 145 horse to 370 horse. info came from MSA-1 2113 small block number guide
