hi.. I want to put achevy 262 v6 in my fiero.as an old school guy I want no computer, the feel of big inches inmy seat when I step on the pedal. When I last drove it was455 poncho bonnies.the feel was always great. Now,going to 262 v6 w/ 4bbl. is it possible to put the engine together to get as much of that feel? From articles I have readthe reason for chev, buick andolds 350 s wasfor torque in the bop salso I understand qjets can produce it.THE QUESTION OF WHAT ENTERS the picture also.IF anyone wants to answer these quest. I will have plenty more.thanks for your time phil the geezer.

Allright people, I'll take the repeating myself part on this one. You had a 455 before? And you want to make as much power on a V6? I seem to be missing something here...if you want 455 power, PUT IN A 455! A v6 will NEVER make as much torque without MAJOR money, time and ingenuity involved, not to forget a formidable dose of nitrous at about 2000 just to make some torque (which will destroy your engine). If you want 6 popper power, try Super Street. This is the site for real american muscle, not riceburner copies.

Uh, last time I looked a Fiero wasn't a ricer.
I would have put it differently, but have to agree with above, it'd be very cost intensive to get a 4.3L V-6 to make the same power as a 455 could.
But, since your running a very lightweight car, you don't necessarily need 455 power to go stupid fast. Later Fieros had the 2.8L V-6 as an option. It was a very anemic powerplant, but opens the door for a good mod to make this car fast.
Instead of the 90-degree 4.3L V-6, what you should work on doing is finding a factory supercharged 3.8L V-6 and transaxle from an Olds or Buick and drop that in your Fiero. With some add ons and tuning with the blower and computer, the later motors can make close to 400 HP, and will be more than enough to make your Fiero into a skateboard with a rocket engine. I've seen the swap done before. The 3.8L is a 60-degree V-6 like the factory installed 2.8L, so the swap is easier than a 4.3L.
The other option could be to shoehorn a turbo V-6 from a Grand National into your Fiero.

It uses the 60 degree V6 bell housing...hence the confusion.

@ 55_Hardtop_Guy: I stand corrected, I missed the whole 'Fiero' part. But this did remind me of something... a friend of mine has a '97 Grand Prix with the 3.8 six. There was a factory supercharged option for it, and it turned out to be a really swap, just make sure ALL of the electronics are with the motor. Anyways, will the Pontiac 3.8 bolt up like the buick/olds? That actually sounds like an interesting way to go. And it's american ![]()
EDIT: if you COULd find a way to stick a big 455 in the Fiero, I'd love to see it, that'd be an amazing car! (if somewhat nose-heavy)

Fiero's are mid engine...not front...
So yeah...in that case putting a 455 up there would be near impossible...at least if you planned on having a hood of any sort...
But I've never personally checked out a Fiero...so I'm not sure how much room there really is in the back where the engine belongs...

ok friends,I mislead you when L SAID i WANT 455 FEEL FROM THAT V6.i AM WELL AWARE OF THE 3.8 SS SWAPS THEY ARE ALMOST ABOLT IN.T he kit to put in small block chevys are out there, plenty 350 s and lt1s.also I saw a455 in afiero on line They used atoronado trans.for that 1.What I was really asking ,was.can a262 v6 be built to have more torque with morehorsepower by doing things like longer rods and qjet carb. as afew examples for torque increase.Lord knows I am adumby, but I did not expect 455 torque from the 6.Ihave the adapter kit to put the v8 in.HENCEsince bolt patterns are the same for 6 or 8.Thanks for your answers, just dont think I am an idiot for the first letter. If we can still converse,I have quest. on qjets andfwd transmission and on and on and on. phil the geezer.

hi 55 hrg tp guy .WHEN I decided to do a fiero I had been awayfrom everything but pontiac v8 for awhile.I thought all gm v6s were pritty much alike. Now that I have dug into it I find 60 degree and 90 degree v6s,front wheel and rear wheel bellhousing bolt patterns.2.8 ,3.1,3.4 and3.4d.o.c.60 degree,200.229,262 90 degree chevy v6,3.8 gen 1.2.3 fwd bop v6 and then 252 and 231 *** rwd bellhousing.THEN there is fwd and rwd 4 cyl. dual overhead cam engines, not counting different northstar v8s.I had started buying parts for a 262 v6 before I realized caddy engines made good swaps into fieros.SOnow I am going very low tech with the 262 v6.
