park the car on a flat surface if possible and check the trans fluid with it running most likely its low.

probably low fluid, but also if the trans hasn't ben cared for well and the fluid not changed regularly, you could have gum build-up in the valvebody and it could be screwing things up, and maybe even clogging up the front pump.

thanks! i'll do that. i recently changed out the fluid like 2 months ago maybe maybe 500 miles ago. i serviced it with a filter and gasket change, i did add some b&m trick shift instead of the 4qts of dexron III. i was going to try some trans x. i figured it couldn't hurt, i've been told that it could help but not to leave it in there even though the bottle states otherwise.. what do you think.

I do not use any additives in any of my transmissions at all and have never used trick shift either.

maybe that's where i went wrong, i mean the tranny had been feeling like maybe i might be starting to have trouble but when reverse not catching and nuetral catching drive starting happening it was shortly after adding the trick shift.. i'll check the fluid first though like you suggested i guess i have to get it to level ground first..

hmmm.... did you take out the extra sealing sleeves from the bore where the filter fits into... when these dont get removed they force the filter down and the pan can crack the filter when it is tightened,, since when running the oil level is about the level of the pan gasket.. any crack in the tube above that will suck air... and cause all kinds of problems...      use a flashlight ... after you get the filter out..  there is actually a tsb on this problem... I never herd of a th350 transmission having a sealing sleeve on the filter they only have a gasket that seals the filter to the valve body.I have done fluid changes many of times on th350 transmissions and they never had sealing sleeves on the filter. But some of the other gm transmissions do.

only th400s have the o-ring.TRANS-X works great, but if trans is already in pretty bad shape/lots of sludge,it just loosens up all that s**t.time for R&R.

by the way.. my mistake... for some reason i thought it was a 700...

i have seen the fiber filters bake rock hard and not pass fluid...

and i have had a nylon strainer filter on a th350 break up and have the lenghts of  nylon or what ever the screen was get stuck in the valve body... stopping it from shifting.. so excuse me for being brain dead...  i do enjoy helping people in these forums...  i hope my input from my many years as a professional mechanic and hot rodder helps...

YOU MIGHT WANT TO START WITH THE SIMPLE THINGS FIRST.. WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR A SHIFTER?? IS IT SET UP RIGHT.. THE FIRST TIME I HOOKED A B&M SHIFTER UP WAY BACK IN DINOSAUR DAYS I WAS UNAWARE THAT THE SHIFTER HAS 2 SPOTS FOR PARK DUE TO SOME TH350'S HAVING LONGER THROW FOR PARK. I ITS CABLE SHIFTED CHECK FOR ADJUSTMENT IF ITS LINKAGE IS IT POSSIBLE IT GOT BENT? WITH THE MOTOR OFF SHIFT SLOWLY THRU THE GEARS THEN BACK AND LISTEN FOR THE CLICKING IN THE TRANS TO MAKE SURE IT MATCHES THE SHIFTER. THIS MIGHT NOT BE YOUR PROBLEM BUT ITS WORTH THE MINUTE IT WILL TAKE. DOES IT ACT ANY DIFFERENT WHEN ITS AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMP THAN WHEN ITS COLD????

THERE ARE 2 KINDS OF CHEAP PARTS..THOSE YOU SCORE FOR A CHEAP PRICE AND THOSE THAT ARE CHEAP MADE.
