165 U.S. 50 Mile Post EU 14 about 2 am.....

I was shooting for 170 when it occured to me just exactly how much damage one of those suicidal Nevada jack rabbits was going to cause!!!!!  NOT worth it for sure!

I had a '65 pontiac tempest with a '70 400ci from a GTO running a turbo-400 and 2.93(or so) rear gears. One late afternoon returning home I got into a race with a AAR Cuda on I-94 in Michigan, I drafted him till about 120-122, he pulled into the right lane, I floored it, passed him, then we both saw Michigan's finest(State Police) going in the other direction, neither one of us back off till he was out of site behind us and then made our escapes. He(the cuda) got stopped but no ticket, and the police officer said he clocked the blue pontiac at 147mph. I got off I-94, went to my parents house and hid till dark and took every back road and street home, never did get caught for that one!!  I have hit 145 in my '96 Impala and 137 in my wife's 2005 Bonneville GXP, both on I-80 in the plains-states

After putting in a ZZ4 with roller rockers, headman headers backed up to 2 1/4 glasspacks with pipes coming out Before the rear wheels>  (i put 2000 miles on that exhaust driving it every day and did not get pulled over ONCE!!!) I got on the RT-3 and hit about 135 maybe a little more.
Well I finally put on a full exaust, 2 1/2 true duals with Thrush mufflers. so now that it is quieter i went a little faster.
when i hit about 140 to 143 there was a quick buzz then BOOOM Drive shaft let go! NOT the U-Joints. the welds in the front of shaft, where it gets a little bigger, let go. the shaft flopped around and flattened the 3 day old exhaust then the welds in the back  let go and a foot long piece of the shaft blew out the back of the car.
when you look under the car there is a foot of shaft in the tranny and a foot of shaft in the rear end. U-Joints intack!!
Well the original driveshaft lasted 250K miles and the tranny was slipping into 2nd gear so guess the only real loss was the exhaust.
and would i do it again? You all know the answer, and you would too. I wonder how fast the new shaft will hold out too?

It may not be the fastest or prettiest, but i can pretend

I got a new record for top speed with a 4 cylinder car. My new personal best is 120 MPH in my 92 Honda Accord. I was on Warren-Ravenna road in Newton Falls, OH. Trust me you do NOT want to get pulled over in that city. I was in the township around 3 a.m. Right after a sharp S-turn there is a long straight, bout 2.5 miles or so. This punk in his "Supped Up" Crapilier(Cavalier) tried to ut accelrate me. Too bad his 18" tires and rims, spoiler, body kit, and coffee can muffler, make his car SLOWER than stock. He mighta had a chance. It wouldn't be noteworthy, but my Honda has 208,000+ miles on it now, both quarter panel are completely rotted, and the bumper cover is hanging down, it was hit in the rear and the decklid is bent, one taillamp is hanging on by the wire harness alone, and it is completely STOCK, with the catylitic converter still on the exhaust.

Guzzling gas and hauling ass, the true American way.
