Now that Big Dave is gone -- what's the word?
I had some really mixed feelings about the guy. Since he announced his departure in CC, I thought I'd post here. Besides -- it's a better mag
Pro - he was a car guy -- I think that he ran on nitrous and drank oil - he brought a lot of enthusiasm to the place - he seemed to work his a$$ off to figure out what the mags needed
Con - He seemed to be the original one man band. I often saw references to 'being busy editing (number here) magazines' Didn't the other guys do anything? - I also never saw him say something like 'Thanks to Glad's heroic efforts we were able to ...' Maybe he did that at corporate -- I don't know - Took front and center on various big projects -- 200+ mph Camaro and the (not missed by me) F Bomb
These are my impressions, but I'm really on the fringe. I mainly just read the mags. Now that I'm retired, I'm hoping to actually build something, but who knows.
Anyway, thought I'd throw this out for comment.
CC rocks -- but how about a hot I6 300 FoMoCo build?

You forget about ever seeing the Disco Nova again. At least in CC. It left with Dave.

I will miss Freiberger at CC and Hot Rod. He opened my eyes to cars other than Chevys.

You know I liked him a lot and frankly would not have renewed my sub for 3 years had I of known he was leaving. Quite frankly I am afraid it will become Chevy Craft again and as long as Smith is on the mast head anywhere ...that is a distinct possibility.

I will miss Freiberger too. I think he really made the magazines Hot Rod and Car Craft much better. I also do not know if I would have resubcribed if I'd known he was leaving.Hope it doesn't revert backwards. Hope for the best for my favorite mags.

I met DF's replacement Jerry Pitt at the Grand National Roadster Show. He was really cool and approachable just like Dave is. Don't forget Rob Kinnan and Dave are cut from the same clothe. Just as a reminder. Kinnan did 90% of the work that Dave got the credit for the last couple of years, and that's Dave's own admission. I doubt the magazine will go down in the toilet because of Rob and Jerry.
