HAVE A LT-1/4L60E OUT OF A 96 POLICE CRUISER(CAPRICE)...MOTOR NEEDS WORK,BUT IS ALL THERE ,TRANNY IS GOOD.SINCE I AM GOING TO HAVE TO TEAR THE MOTOR DOWN I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE TESTED SELECTIONS OF PARTS COMBINATIONS AND AVAILABILITY OF AFTER MARKET PARTS FOR THE LT-1 IN CC.. I KNOW IM ALITTLE LATE AS THE ARTICLE WAS IN LAST MONTHS ISSUE BUT THE ENGINE IS NOT OF THE MOST CONCERN TO ME.MAINLY I WOULD LIKE TO ASK SOMEONE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT SWAPPING OUT A 2004R FOR A 4L60E,AND SOME OF THE PARTS FOR THE 4L60E

If it was me I would stick with the 200-4r trans from what I am told by a buddy of mine that has a grand national that they are strong transmissions. It should also be a unibolt as well.

BLEW THE 2004R IN MY MONTE AND NOTICED NOT ALOT OF AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR IT.BUT I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE 200 HAD A LARGER 1ST AND 4TH GEAR AND WAS SET UP WITH HIGHER LINE PRESSURE AND A HIGHER STALL FROM GM.IT WAS AN ORIGANAL REPLACEMENT TRANNY FOR MY MONTE,BUT I DROPPED IN A STROKER SMALL BLOCK AND SCATTERED IT.I HEARD THAT THE 4L60E WAS RATED FOR HIGHER HORSEPOWER,IS THAT TRUE?WILL PARTS FOR A 700R4 WORK ON THE 4L60E?IF I PUT IN THE 4L60E I WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE DRIVESHAFT CUSTOMIZED,IS THIS WORTH IT OR SHOULD I LOOK MORE INTO THE 2004R?I HAVE ALL WINTER TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT NEED TO START MAKING SOME DECISIONS SOON,ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.THANKS

Here are the gear ratios of the 200-4R 1st 2.74 2nd 1.57 3rd 1.00 0.d. .67.Yes the 200-4R has a numerically higher gear ratio. Jeg's has rebuild kits and shift kits to beef up the trans I recomend a b&m transpack shift kit and b&M or tci rebuild kit.I am not sure if the 4L60E was rated for a higher H.P. or not but my buddy's G.N. pulls the wheels off the ground about 2FT and he doesn't have any problems with his 200-4R.You will need to measure the length of both transmissions to see if the drive shaft needs to be shortend or lenghend or may work as is.I would stick with the 200-4R and get it rebuilt with good aftermarket parts.

Yes b&m has holeshot converters for the 200-4R ranging form 2000-3600 stall speeds.TCI has manual valve bodies for the 200-4R as well these can be found at www.jegs.com

if you use small block cups w/poly motor mounts, you do not need to notch the frame
