I'm building a 67 Mustang. The plant I'm using is out of 91 Lincoln VII. I'm using the 5.0 and the AOD. The motor and trans are both very sound but the guy that had the Lincoln was butcher to the wiring so I'm going with a Carb and 4bbl. My Q is what should I do about the trans rod that hooks to the throttle and how to get the speedo to work? Duz anyone make an adapter for these parts? I have a good C4 but with $3.10 a gallon I want that extra gear. Thanks P72

ford motorsport has a replacment wiring harness for the 5.0 ...and you will get better fuel economy.....just  over 2-1/2 bills..

the throttle valve cable is a critical item and the ajustement and ratio of pull verses throttle angle is also critical ... on trip around the block with it missajusted may burn out the tranny...

throttle valve control rods were available for throttle body injected models (CFI).. you can tells these earlier models as they have a big aluminum air filters ...  usually with the injectors knocked out...swipped..

since the CFI throttle bodys use a holley 2bbl sized base... measure the lenght from the center of the throttle shaft to the center of the tv cable attachment .. i have a spare throttle body off my 83 5.0cfi tbird if you need that measurment...    since the primarys on a 4 barrel carb are farther forward  compared to a 2 bbl the shaft may be too short... there is some ajustments on it.. i dont know if there is enough..   az has specs on ajustments on their repair info link online

volvo guys use them..fyi green v6 cfi injectors are 36 lbs, dk blue are 59 and grey are 62... but they require a special adaptor to install the upper seal.

I think Edelbrock's Performer-series carbs and intakes are a great move for a street 302 that doesn't have to pass emissions.  I'm somewhat familiar with using a TV rod from friends who own P72 Crown Victorias (VV carbureted).  The thing to do seems to be to switch over to the Lokar throttle and TV cable kits as I did - they sell a bracket that mounts to the base of the carburetor, so you don't have to worry about how to mount the cables, and at least on my Edelbrock 1406 carb, the TV cable just hooks into the lower hole on the throttle lever and you adjust it and you're done.  Definitely make sure to study the TV cable adjustment method in a later-model shop manual to make sure you've got it right ... tranny smoke = bad.

FYI, they're not Mustang sites, but there are several guys on www.grandmarq.net and also www.crownvic.net with good general knowledge about AOD transmissions, and there are a few of us who have converted SEFI vehicles to carbs with good success.
