We were in the process of installing a chevy 355 when we decided to go ahead and crank the oil pump over with our priming setup. At first everything looked good with plenty of oil comimg from the pushrods on the passenger side until we noticed no oil was coming out at the rockers on the drivers side of the engine. It is a fresh rebuild and all galley plugs have been installed. This engine was carefully cleaned and assembled and the galleys were brushed out with an engine brush kit.PLEASE, if someone could give me some ideas or a solution I'd probably do a backflip or at least quit counting to ten (it's not helping at this point).

Did you use a dummy dist or a shaft to turn the pump??? With out useing a dist, you will only oil one side of the engine. The dist housing allows oil to pass to both sides of the engine instead of just one side.Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. Yes we used a dummy distributor for priming the engine.

Spin it 180 deg(the engine crank)and do it again. If it dont work you have blockage somewhere.

yeah,we were kinda leaning toward some sort of blockage, but were hoping it could something easier to deal with (less disassembly).I turned the motor over by hand two turns, while we primed it to insure good lubrication to the parts. Oh well,..back to the work bench. Thanks

The first place I would look is the oil galley plugs on end of block. Make sure that one isn't treaded in too far blocking the oil passage to that side of the lifter gallery oil passage.   hope this helps and that its this easy.

First off, Thanks for your responses. We took a look into the back of the drivers side oil galley and found that a "dirt dobber" had started to make nest. Needless say even though we cleaned every inch of this engine with brushes and solvent as soon as we got back from the machine shop, it sat for two weeks. However, we did oil everything down and double bagged it. From now on I will try not to be in such a big hurry.
