I have been playing around with my lt1 for about 8 years now. I have had great results. I have also been a loyal car craft subscriber for about 15 years. I would definately like to see an lt1 build. If you wanted to stick with a stock shortblock you can run mid 11s with the right heads and cam setup. and all the bolt ons. Kory

you should do a lt1 build up. dont for get they came in caprice and roadmasters i always see stuff about f bodies. i bought a 94 caprice wagon with 27k on it. i have flowmasters no cats, k&n ram air jet module and cop car elec. fans and ran 15.20 at atco raceway in n.j. and that is with stock 2.56 non posi rear . not bad for a boat. next will be posi373 rear.

I loved the LT1 article.
Thanks Car Craft, for not forgetting us LT1 owners ![]()
People forget that the LT1 was available in Roadmasters and Fleetwoods too.
I enjoy modifying my '94 Roadmaster Sedan. In fact, it's as much fun, or more fun than some of my past project cars ('64 Impala, '66 442). I have power AND comfort with my RM.
We take it to car shows & cruise-ins, once even won a "Dare to be Different" award with this car.
The LT1 engine is the reason I bought this car in the first place. I couldn't believe how well this 4200 pound car moved! After 4 years of modifying her, she's not nearly finished yet.
By the way, the Opti Spark gets a bad rap. I upgraded mine with the MSD cap & rotor, and changed to a Meziere electric pump because I wanted to. The Opti was going fine at over 100K, and I'm sure it would still be going strong, even though my water pump leaked on it. No, aftermarket parts are not the easiest to find. Yes, some of the aftermarket parts are a bit more expensive. That said, I wouldn't trade my RoadMonster for anything.
What started out for me as an inexpensive transportation car has evolved into one of my favorite hobbies. Here is my car's homepage if you want to see what some of us Roadmaster owners can do with a "grandpa car":

Thanks again for focusing on the LT1!

Im very pleased to see that CC has not forgotten about the LT1. I was thinking myself about what kind of power I could get with some head work this winter. I would love to see a nice 400-450 hp build. Also there are a couple of things you can do for a couple "free" ponies. I will be renewing my subscription in looking forward to some LT1 build ups.
