Have you ever seen or heard a ford 300 engine bored over?
Stock puts out bout 300 lbs ft torque(more torque than a 302) but only bout 150 HP
Is it possible to do so? I have never heard of anyone doing such and I had thought about boring my engine over for more power. Do you think its a good idea? the 300 6cyl are more powerful than the 302 and close to a 351 but the hp is weak and I didnt know if boring it over would make it better or if it was possible.

You can overbore a 300 I-6. Normally during a rebuild the front cylinder has a bit of distrotion because of the water jacket design, so an overbore to get cylinder roundness back into spec is required.
The 300 is a torque motor, that's why it doesn't have a ton of horsepower. There's a fair amount of 300 I-6 performance stuff out there, several sportsman racers run 300s successfully. A beefier cam would be a good start, I'm pretty sure you can use 5.0L roller rockers on the 300 six for better valvetrain performance also.

The 300/6 has great potential as a torque-producing engine...you can do all kinds of things with them if you remember to build to their strength.
A customer a speed shop that I worked at in Orlando had a 300/6 in an E350 van that he used to tow a HUGE boat. Even with a T-18 4spd (granny low gear), he was having difficulty pulling it with the stock engine.
We put together a combination that worked very well for him and amazed everyone who experienced it. Beginning an Offy Dual-Port 4bbl intake, a 390 cfm Holley carb and a 6-into-1 header, we added a Crane 901 hydraulic cam & recurved the distributor. The engine idled smoothly and it pulled like a Grizzly. The increase in torque was astounding (especially for the simplicity of the modifications) and fuel economy was markedly improved to boot!
At last count, his guy had put over 200K miles on this combo and may now require surgery to remove the permanent grin that he's acquired from driving it.
A friend who worked at a HD marine/industrial/off-road equipment machine shop & parts house built a very impressive 300/6 hotrod engine. Locating a forged steel crank and HD rods (used in 300/6's in dump trucks, etc.) gave him the idea for he project. He had custom forged pistons made, a custom-ground cam, shaved the head & ported it and then balanced the recip. assy. He used a 2x 2bbl intake (Clifford mfr.?) 2 Holley 2bbls and dual 3-into-2 header system. I never heard any dyno hp figures for this combo, but the '68 Fairlane SW he dropped it into would sure get with the program!
Way back in the cobweb-laden backrooms of my memory, I seem to recall a dragster powered by a highly modified 300/6. I believe the guy was cutting, sectioning & welding Boss 302 heads into an I-6 head for his digger. I'm thinking this mill was mechanical fuel-injected (Enderle/Hilborn type) and very successful.
I hope this info encourages someone out there to take another look at this venerable engine.
