Hello everyone! I have a 57 Nomad in rough but driveable condition. Right now it has a weezy 283 in it with a saginaw 4spd. My plan is to swap this engine out for a 383 stroker in the interment till I have enough money to start a restoration. I am still using front motor mounts and bellhousing mounts. My first question for ease of engine swap could I retain this engine mount setup or will it break parts left and right? Will my saginaw with brand new gears handle a 383 with about 400 lb-ft of torque? I have 5/16th fuel lines, will it be necessary to update to 3/8? If it is necessary to change mounts out for this new engine should I consider just rebuilding the 283 with maybe a roller cam and heads better than old power pack heads? Something like darts or AFR? As far as streetability goes it has the early style rearend with either 3.70 or 4.11 gears in it. Right now this screams 3200rpm at 65mph and still gets 15mpg. I would drive this car on the highway more with 3.08 rear gears. Is this going to be too tall if I do keep the 283? I was figuring the 383 would have alot more torque to handle these gears. This car isn't a race car but I would like it to have more power running around town and with 3.08 gears, decent mileage on the highway.

Saginaw 4spd will shread gears and twist input shafts behind a strong 383.They dont like strong 350's.
