I AM BUILDING A 383 FOR MY FRIEND AND MY QUESTION IS CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW THE RODS GO IN THE BLOCK?
THERE IS A EAGLE ON THE FRONT AND NUMBERS ON THE BACK, MY QUESTION IS WHAT GOES TO THE FRONT THE EAGLE OR THE NUMBERS? I KNOW THIS SOUND LIKE I AM A DUMMY BUT I HAVENT BUILT A CHEVY IN YEARS.
I CALLED EAGLE TECH LINE LAST FRIDAY AND THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I just got finished building one. I never pay attention to those monikers, i.e. numbers/eagle. The crank journal should have a fillet, an area of steel that is at a 45 degree angle to the bearing surface. the fillet has to match up with the area of the rod that has a corresponding area of metal that is cut out for that. Or if you look at the rod journal there should be one side that looks as if it has a taper on the inside edge of the journal, that would be installed on the side of the rod journal of the crank that has the fillet. The rod journals should always have these toward the outside of the rod journals for every throw. So the rods would have the taper facing to the front and rear for each pair for each journal. God i hope i havent just confused you.
