Thats about right.Id charge neerly that.Even more that direction, you may put the exhaust in now with the headers on the 305,tune the 305,and build the 327 later for budget reasons.A 305 can b a strong runner in a daily driver if given room to breath out the pipes.Itll never b an LT1,but a smooth torqy little runner for sure.

I'm just worried about clearance at this point.
The shop i called a second ago said they can do it but it's very risky and their isn't alot of room to put the mufflers at. I'm not sure if i should try it or not.

Funny thing,1 of my best friends has a 91' TA,weve been debating going Pro Street with and 3 months we ago had it on the lift looking at this same issue.I figured its good to fit a 2 1/2 with flowmaster 50's nicely, with a little creativity.I never cared 4 those style car myself, but if Its a guys first car,why not make it hang with the big dogs.Hes had the thing a long time.

Haha yeah it's a bit risky. i just don't want to pay $550 and have it hit the ground on a bump or get pulled over for it hanging to low. Then again i do need to do something to this car.. this 305 is breaking me and i have absolutely no power.

I dont know ur location and the local noise restrictions, but the 50 series, judging from my estimates under his, will fit side of 1 another were the stock muffler was.No clearance issues there. They would have to cross each other in path to fit,but I believe the clearance is there.Would have known for sure, had he not decided to go all out.The car is over 2 bills on the mileage and he wants a BBC,so its gettin gutted, tubed frame, all the goodies.

I live in central florida. I know there's no restrictions really because people run cars loud as possible around here and noone says a thing (other than music   ). But where was the stock muffler? And the only other bad thing is where to cross over at the back because it supposedly can't go over the axle because it "flexes".

I have an 88 IROC with a 305 TPI.  I currently have a Borla adjustable cat back (I would recommend it...but when I bough it, it only cost about $550...its now up to $850), high flow cat, and edelbrock headers.  I've looked into putting true duals on these...and what I've come up with is to run the pipes along the driveshaft, and use chambered mufflers like summit's chambered mufflers:

They are small...and should work rather well in such a tight space.
Here is the link to the available sizes...

I can't tell you anything about how these sound or perform...but they are small...and look exactly like the chambered systems used on cars in the 60s...

Ya,that was my intent on my buddys,to run the pipes along the sides of the driveshaft, and rotate them over the axle in a crossing pattern behind the axle to exit opposing sides.Seems to b the best street option 4 a big flow exhaust system. No dought it would b tight, but the stock muff. is behind the axle,so it makes sense to use 2 50 series flowmaster mufflers in the area were the HUGE 30+" oem unit was.Cant remember the exact length, but over 30".It does require a new crossmember being made, but thats simple stuff.

Not sure why I didn't think of this before...but for Camaro specific questions...thirdgen.org is an absolutely amazing source.

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/exhaust/304858-third-gen-dual-exhaust.html

Here is a link to the dual exhaust pictures of setups people have done.  The second one is the idea that I had...looks good I think.  There is a link to a site that has a sound clip of that dual exhaust system using the chambered mufflers.  They also have sound clips for most exhaust systems under the exhaust section of the forum.

They have a ton of information on their forum about anything you could possibly want to do to a third gen...

hey man, i found this discussion and had to reply. the true duals will work as long as you don't put an x-pipe in the setup. the torque arm is in the way, and i don't suggest trying to take it off just to run the x-pipe. i tried driving my 91 rs without after replacing the transmission, and it just doesn't work.

Seems as though I won't get headers and the true duals on it.. my dad doesn't like the idea of having headers because the gaskets wear out and he doesn't want to have to replace them all the time and he says it'll be too much time that he doens't have.
Oh well..

The solution to that is to learn how to do it yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere.  Headers might be a tough job for a beginner, but you could move onto headers after getting your hands dirty working on other parts of the car.  Besides, if you swap engines, by the time you are done with that you should be well versed to put headers on yourself.  Besides, my understanding is that header gaskets are way better now then even ten years ago and with exhaust bolt locks they shouldn't have a problem sealing for a very long time.

Ah, well eventually I will learn to do it myself. Being 16 makes it hard though, being a full-time student, trying to work, and still have some kind of life   . But that's life. Anyway, I'm hoping to drop a new engine in it sooner or later because I have 305's.
