Ok, per your comment in the article on Tommy Watt's 68 Hemi Dart in Sept 07 issue, I am happy he did not cut the wheel wells, I would have liked it if he had modified them similar to the Michiagan "Silver Bullet" Hemi "B" body. Where they bulg out to allow bigger rear tires.
I also think the Dart needs at least a 8 point roll bar,
Other than that I think it is a winner.

i thought the car looked bad ass. the wheels look good, but some ET Streets would make a cooler tire. other than that its just a super clean car. digging it

Call me weird, but I actually liked the Super Stocks with the hacked wheel wells. Though on a street car as nice as his, I'd take the time to do a better job than they did back then.
Here's a pic of a original Hemi Dart that sold a Barrett a couple years ago.

Please please don't cut that dart. It is beautiful the way it is. Mr Norms new darts should have come out just like that one. I have owned a 69 340 4sd for over 35 years. I will never cut the body.(narrow & tub maybe) They just look great uncut. The real Hemis were their own. Keep this one street dress and beautiful.......................Dhenry

I agree -- nix on the hack job.
But one thing Tommy should do is (temporarily) remove the grill and rattle-can the radiator support flat black. That's what the factory did, and it looks better than the white peeping through.

Nice car Tommy! It truely is a shame that the article was a complete lie . That car was actually purchased off of Ebay in early spring for around $60,000 from a local rod builder here in N.C. the car was shipped to Ca. as-is in the magazine. when Tommy received it , it already had the Hemi and cross ram, not a six cylinder! There was no restoration on Tommy's part, he just wrote the check. its fine to buy your dream car, just don't lie about it. I sure hate it when someone takes credit for something they didn't do. I guess a good story is better thean a true story . Car Craft, research your stories before you print them!

Do not cut out the wheel wells. Other than outward appearance butchering the body is not necessary. There is adequate room for big tires if a mini tub is done. Mopar has available the parts but some cutting is necessary; not too hard. Proper selection of wheels (I used 17X10.5 inch with 7 inches backspace from a Mustang GT) and tires (I used 275 45 17 but can go bigger) puts lots of rubber on the road. My Dart is a '68 440 2 dr post.

I think you should do whatever makes you happy to your car don't listen to every one else's opinion ,you are building the car for yourself not anybody else.

jramey is right. This guy bought the car already built from a local hotrod builder, Joe Lutz here in NC. Very nice car, but the article is completely fabricated. In fact, it was already a Hemi car when Joe got it. Tommy bought it on eBay in late December from Joe and received it in early January just days before it was "discovered" by Car Craft. Joe has some pictures of the car on his website. http://www.hotroddynamics.com/Past_Projects.php Joe is working on building another HEMI Dart. This one is going to be way badass. It will be a full rotisserie job and has a 528 Hemi with mini tubs and a custom designed 4-link rear suspension.

Plenty of guys stretch the truth of who really built their car. Talk to any car builder out there. They all have cars out there that the owners claim to have built themself once they get to burger stand.
I guess they are afraid they will be ridiculed if they admit to being a "Check Writer" instead of a wrencher.

The fact my car is still not on the road proves that I am not a check writer ;/
