What would make for a good set of sleeper beater wheels? I'm thinking black oxide stamped steel OEM wheels with the right spacing and width, but are they strong enough for racing?

Steelies sound good. I wonder if I can find some big, wide wheels from a truck that'll do the job.

a lot of trucks have different bolt patterns...so be careful when looking. I've got some olds SS2 rallys on my Delta 88...but without the trim rings. It looks pretty mean.

Does Weld make a flat black wheel? Their draglites would look frigging mean as a fake OEM.

steelies are cheap and should be plenty strong. i bought 2 from a junkyard 65 Galaxie and had them widened to a 15x10 for i think $50 each. i had a total of $125 in a pair of wheels that looked just mean. i threw some Nascar circle track slicks on there for a few months. the Galaxie is a street car and i suprisingly enough i never got pulled over even though the slicks and noise were attention getters. heres a pic-
EDIT- dammit! i cant find a good shot of the wheels themselves. oh well, heres one when the car had the slicks and rims on

and a bad profile pic that might help get the idea across -

IF you want a larger size, i had some 17s off of a Chrysler 300 widened as well. they are a 17 inch wheel, i got a set of tires and wheels for $100, sold the tires alone for $100 then had the rear wheels widened for $150 for the pair to a 9 inch width. heres a shot of the wheels themselves-
