anyone have or know someone presently running slicks on a 55 chevy? i'm having trouble figuring out back spacing.the only modification is my leaf springs are inboard of the frame, but no tubs, stock wheel wells.my street wheels are 16x8's with 3.50 inches of b/s with a 255/55-16 drag radial and i can't seem to eliminate wheel spin

I knew a guy years ago with a 55 but it had a straight axle and a set back buick 455 in it.If you can, borrow a set from a freind. That would be my first try.I should think a 10 inch slick would fit no prob, but.they do swell up as you go down track.Your stock wheel tubs might be a problem if that happens. The first time I ran slicks I borrowed them from my freinds mustang after he broke.I ripped the shock mount off the floorpan and the old maverick got about 4 inches of daylight under the left front tire.Found another weak link!!A mini tub job might be in order for you.As long as you have 3 fourths of an inch between the sidewall and your springs a 10 inch should work fine on your present rims.I guess your getting more than 20 feet now huh.Trial and error my freind, hopefully more trial than error Good luck.

I run a 26x10-15 MT Street (street slick) on my basically stock rear in a '55 Bel Air with plenty of clearance inside and out. An 8.5" Centerline Convo Pro with 5" of backspacing almost perfectly centers a rim in a stock wheel opening on a '55 Chevy. I even have a pair of 275-60-15 BFG drag radials which fit, but WILL rub a little on hard corners. If you buy a true slick, they are sized differently, and I don't know if it would fit your wheel opening or not. Measure twice, buy once ( hopefully!)

I have a 55 chevy that I drag race.  It has a Ford 9" stock width rear end with the springs attached to the orriginal hangers.  I'm running Torque Thrust D's and Mickey Thompson ET STREETS 28X11.50-15LT tires. I have about 1/2" clearence between tire and springs and about 3/4" clearance of tire to fender.  It is really close but so far my tires don't rub running 15# pressure. I have a very weak 454 SBB running 8.4 sec 1/8 mile ET.
