inner tie rod

I've never looked under one of those trucks, but I can not think of any examples of rack and pinion steering with inner tie rods, nor drag link or idler arm, so that pretty much leaves all the wear on the tie rods.

My thoughts still are alignments can be knocked out and tie rods can damaged/worn out easily with in 15,000 miles with out any parts being defective.  Just by accidently hitting pot holes, curbs, etc.

Now in your Favor:
I've never seen it done, so maybe it's a recent change (in the last 3 years) but I just checked GM's website and they DO include tires in the 3year/36,000mile warranty.

NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY
GM vehicles registered in the U.S.A. are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles (whichever comes first). The complete vehicle is covered, including tires, towing to your nearest Chevrolet dealership and cosmetic corrosion resulting from defects. Repairs will be made to correct any vehicle defect, and most warranty repairs will be made at no charge. In addition, rust-through corrosion will be covered for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first) and powertrain will be covered for 5 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). See dealer for details.

http://www.chevrolet.com/warranty/

I'd print it out and take it to them.  It is possible if the change is recent some dealers are unaware of it. They won't put them on though until the tie rods are in stock.  PLUS if there is obvious abuse to them (like rubber on the fenders because you know you are getting new tires ) would be reason enough to deny warranty.

Good Luck.

humm.. good catch. I'll go through all my papers and see if I can find it. I hoping since I just bought the truck in July that I have that kinda warranty. They tried to catch me on not paying for it  because they know I work at the local drag strip and said if I raced it, then the tire wear isnt their fault. I'd like to see them explain how drag racing wears the inside of the front tires in that fashion. but thanx for the info.

No problem, I wasn't trying to be a hard ass, just trying to give you their perspective. If that dealer already has a bias against you then it might be in your interest to try another dealership (as mentioned before). Good Luck.

*You should have that warranty (3yr/36,000mi), it goes with the vehicle regardless of the number of owners.

Ok, anyone know a good lawyer for claims against large automotive corps? Heres the deal. Instead of replacing the tie-rod, they replaced the entire rack and pinion assembly, on top of that, they ordered the wrong one so I had to wait an extra day. They get it all done, aligned, ready for the road, all covered under warranty. I worry about the work tho because I went to check the fluid and they had put the cap on backwards. So I had to take it in so that they would break it if they tried pulling it off instead of me. Anyways, I got a call from GM saying they would not replace my tires because as they said, we do not have proof that you have rotated your tires or that you have rotated them right. Wrong thing to say. Here are the reasons why: 1. It states in the owners manual that if you want to do your own work, all you need is to write down the milage, date and work performed, and whom did the work in the work log; which I have done. 2: Is it not obvious that the tie rod caused the tire wear? If they had to replace it because it was CAUSING THE TIRE WEAR that I noticed, how does not having proof of rotating the tires have anything to do with this. The tire was saw toothed, showing it was an alignment issue. If it was worn but smooth, then it would be my fault. Am I wrong?

also, there is one page in the manual that says you are allowed to do your own work, page 5-4. When I called in and told her the page that said that, she "didnt" have that page on her computer. The only page she has is the one that says a GM professional should work on the car. Someone trying to cover their ass, I think so...

I heard that what you are experiencing is a common problem with the colorado P.U. But I work in a small used car dealership,so I get info through the grape vine from time to time regarding things the general public never hears. You might want to go to a different G.M. dealer and ask about a T.S.B.(technical service bulliton)pretaining to your trucks problem. They may have info regarding it.Get a copy of it if you can. Then you can throw that in the service writers face as well. But be warned the dealers guard this info well so you may have to butter someone up to get it.Good luck.

When I worked at NAPA, another employee showed me away to sneek into the system that allowed you look at all the service bulletins on new and used cars. Dont know why NAPA has that capability, but it did. Anyways, I got a letter from GM saying that the subject is now dead and they will not respond to anymore complaints about it. So im gonna work at it now to get the word out that GM doesnt up hold its warranties. Any ideas? Hopefully I can get it posted in a major magazine.

On the other hand my parent's 95 buick le sabre has had absolutely no problems other than paint peeling.  138000 miles...and still going.

If GM goes down, expect the US economy to follow it...at least for a while.  Not to mention your taxes will have to cover all the people GM is supporting right now (which includes its employees who've retired).  I personally don't care to see a recession or depression spawned from an automaker going down...but laugh if you like.

I think some of these cases can be taken to small claims court, where evidence rules are relaxed and judges are used to dealing with small business owners and their clients.  You might be over the financial limit, but it's a thought.

Well, If I can get away with self representation, I think I would. Not sure I wanna spend money on a lawyer for basically a 200 dollar case. I would like to see a magazine come out that post peoples problems with major car coorperations, that way we can really get an idea of which warranty is really the best. But first, I need to find a way to get this story out into the population that way maybe GM will see a it made a costly mistake. Id have a retraction printed if they would just do what is right and replace the tires.

Lasst thing I ever want to see is G.M. falling ,Period. But they along with ford and chrysler need to do something to stave off the toyota onslaut( did i spell that right?)The tonowanda engine plant and delphi employ a vast amount of the tax payers over here. I own a 92 firebird formula with the "yawn" tbi 305,its my winter car.Scoff or cringe now if you like. Its over a hundred K plus miles dont leak a drop or burn a drop. Its a great car, dead reliable. Ilove it and Im a ford guy.So like I said they all have their quirks.Ya gotta love quirkyness.(did i spell that right?)

The new Firefox has spell check for fields (the white boxes that accept typing).  The spell check works a lot like it does in Word, with squiggly red lines under misspelled words and suggested spellings when you right click.  It's great for message boards.

Check on Google and see if you can find any information about a class action lawsuit.  That's typically how a bunch of customers sue a big company.
